About Ikhaya Lothando Community Centre

Ikhaya Lothando means ‘Home of Love’. It is a registered community based organisation that was started around 1994,when there was violence within black communities. The founder members of this organisation started the organisation to have a home for children affected and rendered homeless by political violence.
In 1997 Ikhaya Lothando Management Board and Government came to an agreement that Ikhaya Lothando be registered for teenage boys (between 12-18 years) who are: neglected, orphaned, abused / battered (including those affected by domestic violence).


Child and Youth Care Centre and Social Work Services:

The CYCC is registered to accom-modate up to 24 young male per-sons in need of care in terms of the Children's Act & Regulations.

Skills development centre

Thinking about the future of the young persons as they grow (most of them are still young). Skills development in the field of poultry, gardening, car-pentry and steel works are included in the centre's programme.


The centre runs a pre-school on its premises which caters for 124 chil-dren aged 0-6years. The Preschool is a positive partnership between the children's home and the community.
